July 2008
July is the month of my observational secondary school training, however I have opted out of secondary school science and have applied for transfer into primary school education instead. However, this is a holiday trip to my former secondary school and therefore I shall enjoy it.
Will update!!
DRAMA
Condor Heroes 2007, China drama
I just received confirmation of this by my Facebook group several days ago. According to the info, the main lead is:
- Ariel Lin Yichen as Huang Rong (It started with a Kiss as Yuan Xiangqin)
- Hu Ge as Guo Jing (Chinese Paladin as Li Xiaoyao)
- Liu Shishi as Mu Nianci (Shao Nian Yang Jia Jiang as the princess)
- Yuan Hong as Yang Kang
- Xie Na as the Mongol Princess
- 林依晨 饰 黄蓉
- 胡歌 饰 郭靖
- 刘诗诗 饰 慕念慈
- 袁泓 饰 杨康
- 谢娜
Finally, a new version is out after the release of She Diao Ying Xiong Zhuan featuring Zhou Xun and Li Yapeng some years ago. It is finally time to watch something I have awaited for some time already. Originally, Nicholas Tse Tingfeng was meant to act as Guo Jing but luckily, he was too busy. Especially with the Edison Chen scandal, I kinda pity him. Anyway, I believe he had been filming Da Ren Wu with Liu Tao, which is somehow, another remake of Taiwan's "Yuan Yang Hu Die Meng" with Jackie Wu Jing and Ji Qin. Anyway, Guo Jing is meant to look a bit silly, so Nicholas Tse or Joe Cheng Yuanchang wouldn't be the right choice.

Most Beautiful Seventh Day by Kevin Cheng
Honor and Passion 宝家卫国
Stars: Huang Wenyong, Tay Ping Hui, Felicia Chin, Bryan Wong, Rui En, Hong Huifang, Pierre Png, Nathaniel Ho, Ix Shen, Dawn Yeoh
Others: Li Yinzhu, Jin Yinji, Constance Song, Ong Ai Leng, Lina Ng, Vincent Ng
This twenty-episode sitcom drama features the life of a widowed man in his 40s in bringing up his four children, Wenjing, Wenzhong, Wenwei and Wenguo.
Huang plays Bao Pengju, who despite his stubborn daughter, Wenwei's objections, falls in love with a young woman who is manipulated by her boyfriend's desires for money, and runs off with the money from Peng's bank loan. Peng is determined to acknowledge that all women who borrow from their boyfriends are scammers, and this creates further confusion between him and his second son (Wong)'s girlfriend, Xiaonuo (Yeoh). He objects to them being together and tries to get Wenzhong to accept an independent military officer, Peipei (Chin), as he has a strong appreciation for Peipei, who is the tough and smart kind, not knowing his eldest son, Wenjing (Tay) is deeply in love with her. Only Wenwei knows that Wenjing still loves Peipei, despite Peipei has already encouraged him to give her up. Unknown to herself, what Peipei feels for Wenzhong is not actual love but her longingness for the memories shared between Peipei and Wenzhong in secondary school when she developed a crush for him.
When Wenzhong gets hurt from creditors whom Xiaonuo's cousin owes money to, Peng's misunderstanding wanders further and worsens as Xiaonuo tries to borrow money from Wenzhong when her aunt gets injured. With the help of the woman who loves him, the younger sister of his late wife, Yamei (Hong), he eventually accepts Xiaonuo as his future daughter-in-law.
Wenwei is involved in a love triangle between two men she cares for, her boyfriend Wu Chengyi (Shen) and her colleague which she initially developed misunderstandings with, Picasso (Png). Her relationships are finally resolved with the unearthing of Chengyi's true identity followed by his death, and her saving by Picasso...
Overall:
A nice series, but needs improvement with account for the SAF scenes and the actors' lack to respond in time in certain events which require live action. Also, it could help if Rui En's characters weren't carved out to be the 'nice friendly girl that is liked by everyone', and to introduce some variety in her roles. In like manners, Xiaonuo was carved out to be 'the factor for Peipei to be not with Wenzhong' as viewers simply wished to see Felicia Chin matched with Tay Ping Hui.
Huang Wenyong did a great job portraying the naggy and stubborn father who was overconcerned about his children, even if he may seem irritating to some young watchers. By no doubt was Wenwei and Wenzhong as stubborn as their father! The drama did a good job portraying relationships within the army but it would have been better if they focused more on army training. Nevertheless, some scenes were sweet, such as the love ribbons with Felicia and Tay, and the scene where the Bao youths and Yamei's friend got together to trick Peng in revealing his feelings for Yamei was simply funny.
GAMES
Bigfish Games/Reflexive Arcade Ranch Rush
Ranch Rush is the typical farming game where you collect a number of crops and dairy products (milk, cheese) as well as ketchup and honey within a certain time limit and get payment for it in a task-manner. For lovers of lightweight games, this is a good choice and doesn't lag on the Vista platform as compared to First Class Flurry, which until now I am unable to resolve.
Special feature: Able to screenshot the whole farm, even the parts beyond view (the game scrolls as you move to the right side, which is hidden from view)
VisualBoyAdvance: Playing GBA games
VisualBoyAdvance was the trend in University to play the beloved Gameboy Advance ROMS over full screen on the computer. So much for the tiny Gameboy Advance screen! Download it here.
Planning to setup a section for ROMs as well. ^^

Yoshi's Island~
Been playing Mario or Luigi all the time? Play as Yoshi and learn to aim with your eggs instead of Mario's jump or fireball-shooting. Swallow an enemy and pass him out as waste, or hit another enemy directly with him! Collect as many eggs as you wish, but watch out for Yoshi-swallowing piranha plants and take care to not let baby Mario fall, for if the timer reaches '0' you will have to restart the game.

Comment:
This tutorial helped me a lot in my install of fonts, as previously I have tried using the method below but it doesn't work.
Note that in the screenshots, two blocks are shown for WomanMobile. If you are an avid fan of Kanji/chinese or Japanese, you should get an unicode font instead, like for example, Arial Unicode MS, Simsun or PMingLiU.
